You are Emma/Phil Wilson, an environmental activist. A new holiday resort is going to be built in the middle of a nature reserve. You write an article for Green Living magazine to denounce the problems raised by these plans and to suggest a few solutions.
New plans have recently been made by a multinational hotel network to build a holiday resort in the middle of our nature reserve. This reserve was established thirty years ago to protect the natural habitat of the Deepwood Forest that stretches over more than 1,000 acres. These plans are unacceptable from an environmental point of view. It is my duty to alert the citizens and the community and that is the reason why I am writing this article. I shall explain the disastrous consequences that such a plan might have and suggest some solutions.
To begin with, the construction of this holiday resort will have terrible consequences on the environment if the project is carried on. First, it will affect the wildlife and might make some of the rare bird species that live in the forest disappear. Then, the lake that is situated in the middle of the forest will be converted into a water sports centre, which will completely disturb the harmony of the local flora and fauna. What's more, a great number of trees will have to be cut down.
Given all the problems the construction of the resort will bring, I strongly feel that every possibility to oppose the project should be carefully studied. The mayor of our city should speak up for the preservation of the nature reserve, and convince his citizens to do so as well. Taking action might imply occupying the reserve, for example, while asking as many journalists as possible to cover the event.
I want to believe it is still possible to save the Deepwood Forest. I do hope we will not let a few company managers decide what is best for us. But to succeed, we need all the support we can get. We will be grateful to the readers of Green Living magazine who are willing to express their support by signing the online petition at protectdeepwood.org.
